Comics Continuum had an update from writer/producer David Slack on the Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo animated movie:

"Without giving anything away, there's a little bit of romance between two our lead characters," Slack said. ...

"Obviously, if you're going to have it take place in Japan, there's a lot of Japanese things that you need to see," Slack said.

Also at Comics Continuum, Kristopher Carter, Michael McCuistion and Lolita Ritmanis -- music composers for Justice League Unlimited and Teen Titans -- discussed the new movie:

"We tried to make it feel different from the rest of the show," Murakami said. "We wanted to make it feel like a movie. I think I said, 'Make it bigger,' and since we're going to Tokyo, it's like Godzilla music."

One of the big difference is that the film features live musicians, rather than the in-house creation, for a bigger sound. And, of course, a film based in Tokyo featured new challenges -- like Japanese super-hero music.

"Glen told us we could have open season on the Asian thing," McCuistion said. "And I don't think we had done that on the series before."

Shew, I'm glad they're making the music feel more Asian, 'cause a show that featured a theme song by HiHi Puffy AmiYumi (singing in Japanese about 50% of the time, no less) didn't have an Asian feel AT ALL.

But seriously, glad to hear they've gone all out on the Titans' last hurrah. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Titans in Tokyo Airs in September

According to the Comics Continuum:

Cartoon Network has informed The Continuum that Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo will air on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Here's how the network describes the film:

"When a high-tech ninja attacks Titans Tower, Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy spring into action. Robin finds out that the ninja was sent by a mysterious and menacing Japanese criminal known as Brushogun, and the Teen Titans travel to Tokyo to track the villain down."

The film is also scheduled to repeat on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Please note Cartoon Network's schedules are always subject to change. No word yet on when the movie -- which was screened at Comic-Con International -- will be available on DVD.

Looking forward to what may be the swansong of this incarnation of the animated Titans. Thank god, because that last episode sucked eggs.
